A note from Rachel, Midnight's caregiver:
I will never forget the day Midnight came into my life! I went to the SPCA in 1993, hoping to find a second cat to keep Starlyte company so he wasn't so lonely when I wasn't home. Midnight had been found on the streets and was quite skittish, but repeatedly came to me, licked my hand and purred, ran off and came back again. She totally won me over! I knew she had chosen me and she had to come home with me.
It took a long time and a lot of patience, but slowly over the years, Midnight has overcome a lot of her skittishness and fear of people. I did everything I could to make sure Midnight felt safe and secure and help her become comfortable with sitting laps and being petted for more than a few minutes at a time. Although it took many years, Midnight can even be cuddled - which I never thought she would let me do. Every night, she cuddles with me for about an hour while I read. She has the softest, silkiest fur in the world!
The hyperthyroidism has been a test for both Midnight and me, but we have made it through all the sickness and have become even closer because of it. I just want her to be healthy and enjoy what years she may have left. I cannot imagine my life without Midnight, I love her so much!
