Ben

We would like to introduce our newest Stripes Fund recipient, Ben! A handsome 6-year-old cat, Ben is suspected of having HCM, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, which is a thickening of the walls of the heart. Ben is also suffering from pulmonary edema and a kidney infection, both likely the result of the HCM. HCM is an extremely life-threatening condition, which left untreated can lead to heart attack.

The costs of seeing a cardiologist, along with the tests needed to confirm HCM and determine course of treatment are high. Ben’s caregiver is extremely motivated in getting help for his furry friend, and CIC is pleased to offer a $150 Stripes Fund grant to help Ben get treatment!

Update: Monday September 10, 2007: We are deeply saddened to report that Ben crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. His heart condition turned out to be severe and he ended up having a lot of fluid buildup that was not responding to treatment. Thanks to your donations, Ben was able to be seen by a veterinary cardiologist and receive treatment over the past several weeks, which improved his quality of life and gave him and his caregiver, Orly, more time together. Although that time was brief, it was precious and we are grateful to our donors who made this possible. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ben’s caregiver during this sad time.
